Obituary of Jana Lynn Pershing

Dr. Jana L. Pershing, 41, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, in San Diego, California where she resided for 13 years with her life companion Daniel A. Blanchett. Former residences included Seattle, Washington; Rotterdam, The Netherlands; and, Bloomington, Indiana.

She was born September 12, 1968 in Elkhart, Indiana. Her parents are Patricia L. and James A. Pershing. Other survivors include her brother, James H. Pershing and his children James and Dara.

Jana graduated from Bloomington High School North in 1986, Indiana University in 1990 (B.A.), and the University of Washington in 1997 (M.A. & Ph.D.). She was employed for 12 years at San Diego State University as a tenured university professor in the Department of Sociology and Masters in Criminal Justice Program. She retired in 2009 due to health complications related to Stage IV breast and bone cancer.
